The Learning Place: Phonological Awareness
Phonological awareness is the conscious awareness of the sounds of language. It is the ability to reflect on the sounds in words separate from the meaning of words. When children improve their phonological awareness skills, they are more able to apply word attack skills and utilize phonic rules so that their reading and spelling becomes more accurate.
